Meet “Disco” Dave: A pillar of the Ozanam House community
For the past 17 years, “Disco” Dave has been a true fixture of the Ozanam House community.
“Disco” Dave’s journey with us began as a resident, and he quickly became a cornerstone of our original Client Volunteer Program. After graduating from the program in 2017, Dave’s passion for community building led him to establish YStreetball, a vibrant drop-in community basketball program. Every Tuesday from 4-6pm, you can find Dave at the North Melbourne YMCA, fostering a spirit of teamwork and fun through basketball.
At Ozanam House, he organises fortnightly pool and table tennis sessions and competitions every Friday. His energy and dedication also shine through as he assists with our meal service, ensuring everyone feels welcome and cared for.
But Dave’s commitment to the community doesn’t stop there. He also volunteers with the Community Collingwood Magpies Football, where he actively participates in RecLink Football, combining his love for sports with his passion for giving back.
Dave’s story is one of transformation and resilience. Reflecting on his journey, he shares, “What saved my life was the opportunities provided by Ozanam House. It has got me to where I am today. My advice is to make the most of it while it’s there.”
This National Volunteer Week let’s recognise and honour the efforts of volunteers like Dave who make our communities stronger and more vibrant. Interested in volunteering? Click here to start your volunteer journey today.
