Youth Justice Community Support Service Program
Providing long-term case management and outreach support for young people aged 16 to 25 years who have a history of homelessness and youth justice involvement.
About the Program
The Youth Justice Community Support Service (YJCSS) program provides long-term case management and outreach support for young people aged 16-25 experiencing homelessness and who have a history of youth justice involvement.
It also provides an opportunity for young people to access a transitional housing (THM) placement within the North metropolitan region.
The focus of the program is to provide coordinated support and a housing pathway to young people with youth justice involvement who are at risk of homelessness or have a history of homelessness.
The program aims to:
- Contribute to reducing offending and at-risk behaviours
- Support the effective transition of young people into the community, particularly post youth justice involvement
- Development of independent living skills
- Development of the young person’s capacity to engage in education, training and employment opportunities
Program support includes:
- A flexible, non-judgmental outreach service that maintains continuity of support.
- Advocacy with, and on behalf of, young adults who are finding it difficult to access appropriate and relevant services.
- Support to the young adults in identifying areas they consider important and determine the pace at which their goals are reached.
- Assistance to access a range of community resources such as accommodation, general and mental health, education, employment, legal, drug and alcohol, recreation etc.
- Collaborative working with other services specific to the young person’s needs
Eligibility
Young people aged 16-25 who are involved with the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS).
