Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Young Peoples support
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people face unique barriers when trying to access mainstream services and support specific to their needs.
The Young Adults Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Portfolio provides medium to long-term support to young people aged 17-25 years old who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and who are homeless or at risk of homelessness in the North Western Metropolitan region.
We help young people to navigate barriers, equipping them with knowledge and skills, so they are empowered to make informed and independent decisions to achieve their personal goals, and move towards a permanent housing. We do this by linking to accommodation and diversity services, which ensure sustainable housing outcomes.
The Young Adults Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Portfolio provides:
- Individual case management support;
- Assistance to specialist services;
- Advocacy and support to become financially independent with affordable and safe accommodation;
- An opportunity to reconnect with their family, partners and friends;
- Links to culturally appropriate support services;
- Facilitation for pathways out of homelessness and unemployment; and
- Access and choice of employment, apprenticeships, traineeships and/or training and further educational opportunities.
But most importantly, we are a service that embraces diversity and is sensitive to all issues faced by young adults of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent.
Eligibility
The Young Adults Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Portfolio is available to all young adults who meet the following criteria:
- Aged between 17-25 years old;
- Homeless or at risk of homelessness;

Referrals
Referrals for this program are via the Northern Community Hub (NCH) Access Point in Glenroy – see Contact Us below for more information.
Young people must undergo an initial assessment to determine their eligibility. If there are any barriers to attending the NCH, the Young Adults Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Portfolio will try to negotiate another way of completing initial assessments so that young people can access services through VincentCare where possible.
Once an assessment is completed, they will be referred to the Diversity Worker for assistance with housing and support.
