Larisaa’s Journey: Rebuilding After Escaping Domestic Violence
After narrowly escaping a life-threatening situation, Larisaa finds hope and support through VincentCare, as she rebuilds a safe home for herself and her daughter and becomes a voice for domestic violence survivors.

A time of hope and anticipation turned into Larisaa’s worst nightmare, forcing her to flee her family home. When she reached out to VincentCare’s Hume Community Hub, she had narrowly escaped a living nightmare that threatened her life and shattered her hopes for a peaceful future with her husband and newborn.
Larisaa had lovingly furnished her rented home with her own money, but she and her baby girl were left without a place to call home.
The arrival of her husband after his visa approval and the joy of their baby’s birth should have marked a happy chapter. Instead, it quickly spiraled into a period of fear and danger.
Upon her husband’s arrival, Larisaa found herself facing escalating violence that culminated in a terrifying attempt on her life.
VincentCare’s Marian Community provided Larisaa with 24/7 specialist family violence support, stepping in at her most desperate hour. They assisted her escape, managed the dangerous situation, and connected her with the Financial Counselling & Capability team, who introduced her to strategies for managing her finances and building financial capacity.
Despite being employed, finding a new home was challenging for Larisaa, who had to move in with her mother, sharing a cramped apartment.
