The Northern Community Hub has dispersed housing throughout the community along with the provision of services provided with partner agencies utilising an outreach model of support.
Along with the provision of housing, the Northern Community Hub also aims to provide relevant assistance to people in need, including those who are experiencing homeless and/or disadvantage, to develop living skills that will help them maintain stable accommodation.
The Northern Community Hub includes Sunbury Gardens which is an enhanced rooming house providing long term accommodation for single adults and couples aged 50 years and over.
A feature of Sunbury Gardens is the Community Capacity Building Worker role, which is based at the site for up to 4 days a week. The role of the Community Capacity Building Worker is to enhance the Sunbury Gardens resident community with a range of activities and projects and to build relationships with the wider Sunbury Community.
Volunteers at Sunbury Gardens will work closely with the Community Capacity Building Worker to assist with activities, outings, community events and material aid for residents.
As a volunteer with VincentCare Victoria you will be a valued member of the team, assisting people who are homeless, vulnerable and isolated to find their place within the community.
Volunteers are often needed to help with a wide range of activities organised by the Northern Community Hub including:
- Social and health promotion activities
- Internet and computer training
- Welcoming people to the Hub and giving it a warm and friendly atmosphere
- Various administration duties
