Empowering connections at Ozanam House during National Homelessness Week

More than 110 attendees came together to learn about the incredible health programs and activities available.

What a fantastic day at the Ozanam House during National Homelessness Week! More than 110 attendees came together to learn about the incredible health programs and activities available.

The event was like a vibrant market, offering everything from pamper packs to knitted items. Alongside these, visiting services like Centrelink and nurses engaged warmly with attendees.
But it wasn’t just about the services – it was about the connections. Our unique programs like Pride in Place and the Big Issue’s soccer initiative took centre stage, showing how positive engagement can change lives.

Clinician Josh Carton emphasised the importance of positive engagement, “Listening to various stories, understanding individual backgrounds, and providing the best support and services is crucial,” he said.

The atmosphere at the expo was marked by live music and the cheerful exchange of conversations. Mario, a community volunteer, appreciated the inclusive environment, saying: “Engaging with others in a safe space is always beneficial.”

The day’s successes were crowned by an impressive record of 106 cups of barista coffee served, skillfully organised by client volunteers, and a generous donation of 150 pastries by the Catholic College in Sydenham.

Let’s continue celebrating these positive vibes, the connections made, and the spirit of support during National Homelessness Week.
