Support for Seniors
Getting older doesn't have to mean a loss of control and independence. There are varied options available to assist people to remain living in their own homes.
VincentCare offer government-funded Home Care Packages, which are tailored to the needs of the person and can include anything from help with cleaning and shopping to meals delivery and transport to social and medical appointments.
Transition care is for older people who have been in hospital but need more help to recover and time to make a decision about longer-term care. Transition care may be provided either in your own home or in a ‘live-in’ setting.
Respite care is a form of support for you and your carer. It gives your carer the opportunity to attend to everyday activities or go on holidays while ensuring your needs are supported.
Respite care may be for a few hours or days or for longer periods depending on your needs, the needs of the person who cares for you, your eligibility and what services are available in your area. It can happen in your home or at facilities such as an overnight respite cottage, a day centre or residential care facility.
Sometimes the best way to receive help and support can be by living in an aged care home (also known as nursing homes) either on a permanent basis or for a short stay. You may need help because of an illness, disability or an emergency, or because of the needs of your family, friends or carer. Staff at aged care homes can help you with day-to-day tasks, personal care, or 24-hour nursing care.
The My Aged Care website is run by the Federal Government and is aimed at both older people and their families and carers.
My Aged Care provides a wealth of information about the different options for people who are ageing, including residential aged care, respite care and help to stay in your home for as long as possible.
It details the processes for accessing available services and they also provide a call centre that is open six days a week if you’d like to chat to someone instead of using the website.
