Our Northern Community Hub stands strong at Parliament steps

This significant event marked the commencement of Homelessness Week 2023 and united specialist homelessness agencies from all corners of the state.

In a powerful display of solidarity, our team at our Northern Community Hub stood at the forefront of the State-wide Homelessness Campaign Action event last week on Spring Street in Melbourne’s CBD. This significant event marked the commencement of Homelessness Week 2023 and united specialist homelessness agencies from all corners of the state.

A symbol of the housing crisis was crafted as 60 metres of origami houses – amounting to a staggering 6000 (approx.) in total – adorned the steps of Parliament. This creative installation served not only as a poignant reminder, but also shed light on the urgent need for increased social and community housing solutions.

It’s essential to acknowledge the tireless contributions of the local area service networkers who spearheaded the event and the sector’s housing and homelessness frontline workers, whose presence at the event, despite the challenges they face, is testament to their unwavering commitment to supporting vulnerable individuals and families, as well as advocating for vital systemic changes.

NCH staff members joined the campaign to raise awareness regarding the need for a safe and secure home for everyone. By participating in the campaign, they have underscored the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing the pressing issue of homelessness. Together, we can drive the change needed to ensure that everyone has a place to call home.
